about

I wrote this in 2019. I had been digging in and watching some videos of a young Bob Dylan. I loved the simplicity of what he's doing with just a few chords, but it's how he weaves his voice around those chords and how he uses his voice and the music like punctuation marks.
I didn't set out to write a song that resembled a Dylan tune, but It just sorta seeped in, the way Woody Guthrie bled into Dylan's work.

lyrics

The Devil’s In the Cracks

G C/ G C
Bm
You pick yourself up,
G
Dust off your pointed sorrow,
Bm
Which brought you to the cusp
G
Of all your tomorrows.

Bm
And sorrow swept away
G
In clouds of yesterday,
Bm C
Like forgotten words you pray

CHORUS
D
If God is in the details,
C
Then the devil’s in the cracks.
D
Keep looking toward the horizon
C….. G
And don’t …don’t look back.

Sometimes the future’s like a chalkboard
We forgot to erase
and you’re standing right in front
and you can’t find your place.

And you feel your suffocating
And the world is closing in
But you spy and open window
And you can breathe again.

CHORUS

So at the end of the day
Brush away your regrets.
Don’t mind a little dust,
Helps us hedge our bets.

Travel lightly through this world,
Try to avoid the cracks
Pay attention to what matters
And don’t look back.

CHORUS

about

Scott Aycock Tulsa, Oklahoma

I am a singer/songwriter living in Tulsa Oklahoma.
This is my third CD release and the first one produced by my son, Jesse Aycock and featuring both of my sons playing on the record, so it was especially gratifying.
The writing of these songs and recording this record lifted me out of a dark place and made me so grateful to family and the healing power of music.
These songs celebrate hope.
