about
This song was written by my friend Charles Ireland. I have always loved it from the first time I heard him play it. It became more relevant with the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. Read the lyrics and you will get my inference.
lyrics
It was well past midnight, I was standing in New Jersey
thirsty and looking for a phone.
I could not read the signs, trying to make up my mind
just who to call.
so quiet in the city you can hear the traffic lights all changing
there ain't nothing goin' on.
and when I get this loose and feel like talking,
all my friends are gone.
Chorus-
Ain't gonna make it, Ain't gonna make it home.
ain't gonna make it, all alone.
Every bricks a jungle, and there's no one standing with me,
a sudden quiet chokes off the heart of the city
Laughter falls from windows, with a thousand sounding TV's
where strobing illusions seem to enter in so easy.
I feel safe from the fallout.........close to every building
I'm hiding from the sirens......as I duck into the doorway- and I
Chorus-
Ain't gonna make it, Ain't gonna make it home
Ain't gonna make it, all Alone.
Break-
No money for a taxi, too little for a hotel,
i've just enough case to think about a coffee
and there's no one here to share it, where my breath is falling vagrant,
well I collect my thoughts and prepare this statement.
Chorus-
Ain't gonna make it, ain't gonna make it home
Ain't gonna make it, with these dried up bones.
It was well past midnight, I was standing in New Jersey
Thirsty and looking for a phone.

I am a singer/songwriter living in Tulsa Oklahoma.
This is my third CD release and the first one produced by my
son, Jesse Aycock and featuring both of my sons playing on the record, so it was especially gratifying.
The writing of these songs and recording this record lifted me out of a dark place and made me so grateful to family and the healing power of music.
These songs celebrate hope....more
Poetic lyrics about things that matter, and inventive musicianship in the service of the song, and lastly melodies that are brave and unexpected. Scott Aycock
Beautifully understated finger/style acoustic and electric guitar. Melodies that surprise and delight, reminding us to take a moment and enjoy the simple things this world has to offer. Scott Aycock
A perfect tribute to one of the most underrated music hubs in America by some of the most under-recognized, talented musicians playing today. kristin ides
