about

This song has been around since the 80's. I wrote it remembering a time in my 20's when I was down in Sarasota Florida visiting a girl I was crazy about. I was staying at their farm and I got a call from my mom asking me to come home to be there for my brother who was going through a difficult time.
I had to get on a greyhound bus and cut my trip short. I got stuck in a bus stop in Georgia in a rainstorm and "Rainy Night In Georgia" was playing. I just remember feeling so lonesome.
I took some liberties with the song, but it's still about missing someone and heading home, while worrying about what is waiting.

lyrics

I’m stranded in a depot
Outside Knoxville Tennessee
Snow is dropping so hard
I can’t even see.
Song on the radio reminds me of you

CHORUS
And it’s two more tunes ‘till daylight
And I’m a thousand miles from home.

Should’a never left you
Should’a never gone.
There’s nothing I can do ‘cept sing this tired ol’ song
Maybe I’ll be too late
Or maybe too far gone
CHORUS

I think about your laughter
I can still see your smile
Think of all the good things, girl,
We had for awhile
But I was born to wander
And I was born to roam
CHORUS
BREAK
CHORUS

Maybe this ol’ storm
Will soon be letting up.
I’ll grab my gear
And board this greyhound bus.
But for now I’m stranded
And I’m feeling so alone.
CHORUS

about

Scott Aycock Tulsa, Oklahoma

I am a singer/songwriter living in Tulsa Oklahoma.
This is my third CD release and the first one produced by my son, Jesse Aycock and featuring both of my sons playing on the record, so it was especially gratifying.
The writing of these songs and recording this record lifted me out of a dark place and made me so grateful to family and the healing power of music.
These songs celebrate hope.
